THE FABRIKANT CASE AT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY
Includes two reports issued by the Independent Committee of Inquiry established by Montreal's Concordia University following the 1992 shootings at that University by Dr. Valery Fabrikant. One relates to an investigation of Dr. Fabrikant's employment history at Concordia and to the administrative responses/non-responses to his "disruptive" behaviour. The other deals with issues of academic and scientific integrity at Concordia. Dr. Persinger's site includes a brief biography and statement of his research philosophy. See the Directory page at this site for his 1997 curriculum vitae, on which he lists (in part) a 1979-80 research grant from the U.S. Navy for the study of "Magnetic Weapons and Mast Cells" as well as a 1983 research contract with the U.S. Navy to study "Magnetic Field Effects on Mast Cell Degranulation". Reporter Terry Pender writes (in part) "Persinger denies having any connection -- now or in the past -- with any research project code-named Sleeping Beauty, or of conducting research for any U.S. security service. He does, however, acknowledge that he conducted a small $10,000 research project for the U.S. Navy's weapons development branch in 1982...Persinger said the research he did for the U.S. Navy was designed to determine whether electromagnetic fields could affect mast cells in the brain, causing nausea and vomiting. The idea, he said, was to develop a non-lethal alternative to shooting people, so he had no ethical problem with the work." (LU prof no stranger to controversy. Dr. Persinger is listed by the Foundation as one of its Advisory Board Members. The Foundation has been the subject of controversy since it began, partly because of the alleged connections of some of its Board members to the United States military and/or to CIA mind-control projects.
